Design of halloysite-based nanocomposites by electrospinning for water treatment

Titanium oxide (TiO2) nanofibers are interesting for environmental applications, particularly solar energy and water treatment, due to their physical properties, chemical stability, high activity, strong oxidation capacity. Here, we designed synthesized halloysite-TiO2 nanocomposite fibers by combining the electrospinning sol-gel methods. Halloysite was extracted at Tamra (norther-western part of Tunisia). After optimizing halloysite TiO2 ratio, characterized obtained hybrid materials thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, scanning transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectroscopy, Raman Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method, photoelectron spectroscopy. The results confirmed incorporation into nanofibers. Moreover, when used these as photocatalysts found that > 91 % methylene blue acetaminophen removed neutral pH upon UV visible light irradiation. Reusability tests showed good stability over five cycles under light. We also carried out acute toxicity scavenging monitor formation by-products reactive species during degradation. both O2•- h+ played a major role in its Overall, effective catalysts removal organic dyes pharmaceutical compounds from water.
